The Project Toward No Drugs curriculum targets Middle School to High School students ages 12 through 17 years old.  The objectives are:

 

· Stop or reduce the use of cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana and hard drugs.

· Stop or reduce self-reports of weapon carrying.

· State accurate information about environmental, social, physiological and emotional consequences of drug use and abuse.

· Demonstrate behavioral and cognitive skills.

· Make a personal commitment about drug use.

Botvin’s Life Skills Training targets youth in grades 3 to 6  It uses a comprehensive approach that emphasizes proven skills training methods.  It has documented effectiveness through extensive evaluation which shows that use of the program reduces tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use

 

The research shows that this program cuts tobacco, alcohol and marijuana use by up to 75%.  Providing booster sessions maintain prevention effects which last up to 6 years. It reduces polydrug use by up to 66% and decreases use of inhalants, narcotics and hallucinogens  The program has shown to be effective with white, African-American and Hispanic youths.
